AI Experts in Applied AI & Tooling Development
A better world needs new perspectives. That requires new knowledge, new technologies, and strong forces that bring them together. RISE, Sweden’s independent research institute and innovation partner, is that gathering force. Now we are building Mimer – Sweden’s national AI Factory, a European hub for AI research and development, infrastructure, and adoption.
About us
Within the Digital Systems division, there is the Department of Computer Science, comprising around 100 people, which provides leading expertise in the core areas of AI, Cybersecurity, 5G/Edge, IoT, advanced data analytics, as well as the development of software and data center technologies. All these areas are at the forefront of the digital transformation of industry and society and are critical for Sweden’s competitiveness.
We are now looking for AI Experts who will work hands-on with companies, researchers, startups, and public-sector organisations to turn advanced AI methods into practical, reliable, and scalable solutions.
Mimer is one of 19 European AI Factories under the HPC framework, working to strengthen industrial competitiveness and innovation both within Sweden and across borders. The initiative comprises over 25 colleagues from RISE distributed across various units and departments, including researchers, business developers, and communicators.
About the Position
This role sits at the heart of Mimer’s mission: helping organisations of all kinds apply modern AI efficiently, responsibly, and at scale. You will work directly with users and partners to solve their challenges, develop new AI tools, and make advanced infrastructure accessible.
You will operate like an AI deployment engineer:
- Working side-by-side with researchers, engineers, SMEs, and companies
- Translating needs into technical approaches - from rapid prototyping to production-ready workflows
- Developing tools, pipelines, and components that support broad adoption of AI
- Leveraging state-of-the-art methods (LLMs, agents, vision models, multimodal models, generative AI)
- Supporting users as they move from experimentation to deployment
- Helping onboard partners to Mimer’s upcoming AI/HPC infrastructure and secure platforms
- Contributing to training, workshops, knowledge transfer, and community-building activities in Sweden and Europe
You will collaborate closely with colleagues across areas such as trustworthy AI, software engineering, HPC, data management, and sector-specific teams - and contribute to Europe-wide AI Factory activities. There will also be opportunities to get involved in various RISE research projects.
We now have open positions in Stockholm and Luleå. We follow a hybrid work model that allows employees to split their working time between the office and their home workspace.
Who You Are
We are looking for strong applied AI practitioners who enjoy working directly with users and solving real-world problems - people who combine technical depth with practical execution.
To succeed in the roll you will need:
- Solid experience in machine learning or AI engineering
- Strong programming skills (Python, and ideally modern software engineering practices)
- Experience with building or adapting AI models, pipelines, APIs, or tools
- Understanding of data pipelines, model evaluation, and scalable deployment
- PhD/MSc degree or equivalent experience in computer science, engineering, natural sciences, mathematics
- Experience from industry, research labs, consultancy, or applied research environments
- Excellent communication skills in English
Meritorious:
- Experience with GPU computing, distributed training, or HPC environments is a plus
- Experience with MLOps, automation, or model lifecycle tools is a strong advantage (e.g. Kubernetes, Kubeflow, MLflow, Airflow, Argo, etc.)
- Experience with modern AI training frameworks such as DeepSpeed, Hugging Face Accelerate, or MLflow for experiment and model management
- Experience leading or coordinating technical tasks or small projects
- Swedish is a plus
We are looking for someone who is curious, pragmatic, and passionate about building solutions that deliver real value. You should feel comfortable working across different organizations and sectors, and thrive in collaborative, team-oriented environments. At the same time, you are capable of acting independently— making decisions and navigating the complexities of building something new.
Most importantly, you are driven by creating a positive impact, working for the greater good of society and ensuring the best possible outcomes for the communities we serve.
Are we a good match?
At RISE, you will join a vibrant, mission-driven environment built on openness, collaboration, and innovation. At Mimer, you will be:
- Helping build Europe’s next generation of AI infrastructure
- Developing tools and methods that thousands of users will rely on
- Working hands-on with diverse AI projects across sectors
- Collaborating with leading researchers, companies, and European AI Factories
- Shaping how Sweden and Europe adopt trustworthy, efficient, and high-performing AI
If you want to be at the forefront of applied AI - where cutting-edge technology meets real societal value - we have the right position for you.
