Researcher in measurement technology – mechanics and dynamics
We are now looking for a Researcher who can strengthen our area of measurement technology with focus on mechanics and dynamics. Welcome to RISE! Apply without cover letter.
About us
You will be part of the Mechanics and Dynamics unit, which focuses on measuring mass related units, such as mass, force, torque, pressure, vacuum, sound and vibration. We are a team of 22 colleagues, consisting of a mix of researchers and engineers. RISE contributes to solutions for mechanics and dynamics within many different industries in Sweden and we create and run research, innovation and development projects.
RISE is Sweden’s National Metrology Institute (NMI) and the leading authority in measurement technology. We support national and international development by addressing metrological challenges and maintaining traceability for a wide range of physical quantities through our national laboratories. In collaboration with academia, industry, and society, we also develop new methods for measuring both classical units and behavior-related phenomena—ranging from smart grid voltages and autonomous vehicle sensors to precision in manufacturing and individual health metrics.
Within our unit, we face several major challenges, including rapid measurements of mechanical and thermodynamic processes and new definitions to be developed into practically useful principles. Our work covers all steps in measurement, from needs analysis and trial planning to analysis and implementation of the results.
About the role
You will lead and participate in national and international research and development projects, working closely with colleagues. Customer assignments are also key, involving testing and calibration of various measurement systems. We act as problem solvers and trainers, offering consulting services. Our research focuses on dynamic measurement technology, quality-assured measurements of fast mechanical processes, and innovative methods for realizing and measuring mechanical quantities. Other areas within measurement technology may also be relevant.
You are expected to take initiative in developing the field through networking and by actively seeking funding opportunities. This includes working with research applications and contributing to the growth of our business. The role includes technical development and project management. Depending on your interests, skills, and RISE’s needs, you may also work in other technical areas within measurement technology.
The position is based in Borås, and we currently apply a hybrid work model, allowing you to split your working time between the office and your home workspace.
Who are you?
You hold a research degree or possess equivalent expertise in experimental physics, mathematics, electronics, mechanics, or a related field. You should have competence in one or more of the following areas and a curiosity about all of them: vacuum technology, thermodynamics, mechanics, optics, signal processing, or mathematical modelling. To succeed in this role, we believe you have a strong theoretical background in mathematics and physics, along with a solid general understanding of technology. You are motivated by applied research and the development of technology in various measurement systems. Proficiency in both Swedish and English, spoken and written, is required.
You are a strong communicator and collaborator, yet also capable of working independently. It is important that you can shift between a holistic and detailed perspective and quickly familiarize yourself with new or adjacent fields. You are driven by natural curiosity, enjoy new challenges, and take initiative. You are motivated by a strong personal drive to develop both yourself and your field.
Are we a good match?
At RISE, you’ll work at the forefront of measurement technology, surrounded by skilled colleagues and advanced labs that support your technical curiosity. As Sweden’s National Metrology Institute, we tackle real-world challenges that benefit society—ranging from smart energy and autonomous vehicles to healthcare and manufacturing. With clients from nearly every industry, you’ll enjoy a uniquely broad and meaningful career where your expertise makes a difference.
At RISE, you will work in a very stimulating environment with competent and nice colleagues who are passionate about making a difference. The position offers excellent opportunities for professional growth and involvement in developing new services and methods.
Welcome with your application!
