Research Engineer in Energy Technology – Focus on Pyrolysis
Sweden is facing a major transformation of its energy system, and RISE has a natural role to play in this effort. Together with the industry and the public sector, we develop competitive solutions and conditions that drive sustainable development forward. But we need to grow. We need your help. Help to test and implement new solutions together. Help to show that it is possible to reach climate goals through sustainable growth. Do you want to join us? We hope so!
About Us
As a result of the sustainable transition, there is great interest in producing chemicals and fuels from bio-based and circular raw materials. In Piteå, RISE conducts research and development in the field of thermochemical conversion processes (combustion, gasification, pyrolysis). Much of the work is carried out in our dedicated pilot facilities and often in project collaborations with customers and academic partners, as well as with other parts of RISE. Our projects often include both theoretical modeling and experimental campaigns, and we develop new methods and experimental setups to address current research questions. We also perform field assignments on-site at industrial customers. In recent years, our operations have expanded significantly, and we are now looking for a Research and Development Engineer to join our pyrolysis group.
About the Role
As a Research and Development Engineer with us, you will be part of our competence team within pyrolysis, an area where we have several funded and ongoing projects. You will participate in various project groups, working on executing projects and assignments primarily within pyrolysis, but also other thermochemical processes. Our experimental facilities range from bench to pilot scale and are typically operated by 1–3 people during trials.
Your tasks will include:
- Planning and preparation of experimental campaigns, including risk assessments
- Execution of experimental campaigns, both independently and as part of a team
- Sampling and analysis of samples
- Compilation and documentation of results
- Maintenance and development of experimental setups
Depending on your experience, skills, and interests, you may also lead projects directly or in the future.
Location: Piteå.
Who Are You?
To succeed in the role we believe you have strong collaboration skills, are reliable, driven, and hands-on, and can work independently. Since research and development often require us to revise our plans based on the latest results, you need to be flexible. As we develop cutting-edge technology, it’s important that you are eager to continuously learn and grow.
Requirements for the role:
- University degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, energy technology, or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way
- Good computer skills, primarily in Microsoft Office
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken
Merits for the role:
- Experimental experience from test and pilot facilities
- Experimental experience and knowledge in pyrolysis and/or other thermochemical conversion processes (combustion, gasification)
- Proficiency in Swedish, both written and spoken
